SECRETARY’S REPORT

Secretary’s Report for the Managing Committee Meeting held on 29-06-2009 at 5:30 p.m. at the Students' Home premises for the period 17-03-2009 to 29-06-2009.

At first we welcome two new members of the Managing Committee 1) Swami Ajaranandaji Maharaj, Secretary Ramakrishna Mission Saradapitha, Belur Math, and 2) Br. Avyayachaitanya (Debasish), monastic member of this Home. We also welcome Swami Sarvalokanandaji Maharaj, Secretary of the Ramakrishna Mission Seva Pratisthan, Kolkata, as being the new Vice-President of the Managing Committee. We convey our respectful pranams, namaskars and best wishes to all and hope to be benefited by their valued opinion and practical suggestions in the management of the Students’ Home. We also express our deep sense of gratitude to Srimat Swami Girishanandaji Maharaj, the former Vice President of the Committee, for his kind co-operation and valuable suggestions in the meetings of the Managing Committee during his tenure as Vice-President.

1. CELEBRATIONS :
a) Poila Baishakh was celebrated on 15th April 2009 with Homa in the morning and Ramnam Sankirtan in the evening. The present students, ex-students and devotees offered their oblations in the Homa. Ramnam Sankirtan was followed by a brief speech by Swami Ekavratananda. Fruit Prasad was distributed among 400 devotees in the evening.

b) Rabindra Jayanti was celebrated with a memorial meeting in the evening on 9th May 2008.

c) Ratha Yatra was celebrated on 24th June 2009. There was singing of bhajans and small puja on this occasion. Ulta Ratha Festival will be celebrated on 02-07-2009.

2. SWAMI VIJNANANANDA SMRITI BHAVAN :
The work is going on smoothly. Apart from the regular Seva & Puja, evening classes and Ramnam Sankirtan, weekly Homeopathic Dispensary is continuing as usual.

4. EXAMINATION :
Degree Course Part-I Examination of Barasat University was started on 02-06-2009. Nine students are appearing. Degree Course Part-I and Part-II Examinations of Calcutta University will be started on 06-07-2009 and 01-07-2009 respectively. In Part-I nine students and in Part-II eighteen students are appearing.

5. ADMISSIONS :
Admission process to Higher Secondary and Degree course students were completed on 22-06-2009. For Higher Secondary total 98 students had taken forms. An admission test was held on 08-06-2009 in which 71 students appeared and they were interviewed on 8th and 9th June 2009. Finally 20 students were selected. For Degree course total 175 students had taken forms. Admission tests and interviews were held on 15th, 16th and 17th June 2009 in which 105 students appeared. Finally 27 students were selected.

6. RESULTS :
Higher Secondary : 21 students appeared in the Higher Secondary Examination 2009. All of them have passed in first division. Ten students obtained star marks.

7. VOCATIONAL SECTION :
The daily production of milk from our Dairy is about 105 litres at present. The yield of boro paddy from our agricultural land is aobut 106 quintals. The cultivation of Aman paddy in 26 bighas of land is going on. A good return is expected.



8. RELIEF :
The following Relief Works were conducted by the inmates of Students’ Home and Shilpapitha under the guidance of monastic members from during the months of April to June 2009 :

a) Distress Relief in April 2009 : 136 saris, 1 dhuit, 414 pants, 396 shirts, 316 frocks, 52 ezers, 2 churidars, 4 blankets, and 120 Kg milk powder were distributed to 1256 members of 729 families in 6 villages of Sandeshkhali, Bhangar-I, Barjora, Narayangarh, Dantan-II blocks of 24 Parganas North & South, Purba and Paschim Medinipur districts respectively during the month of April 2009.

b) Distress Relief in May 2009 : 222 saris, 190 dhutis, 392 pants, 398 shirts, 212 frocks, 46 ezers, 47 churidars and 60 Kg milk powder were distributed to 889 members of 592 families in 4 villages of Bhangar-I, Krishnanagar, Narayangarh and Dantan-II blocks of 24-Pargans(S), Nadia and Paschim Medinipur districts respectively during the month of May 2009.

c) Aila Cyclone and Flood Relief in May and June 2009 : 63,600 kg chira, 6,500 kg sugar, 2,95,000 halogen tablets, 1,250 kg bleaching powder and 600 kg lime were distributed to 32,918 victims of 7,405 families in Bazarpara, Adibashipalli, Rangapara, Baidyapalli, Joddarpalli, Mondal Gram, Mistri Bhita, Kalidaspur, Hetal Bari, Gobindapur of Chotomollakhali, Amtali and Kumirmari of Gosaba block in South 24 Parganas district.

d) Distress Relief in June 2009 : 317 saris, 122 dhutis, 361 pants, 377 shirts, 412 frocks, 44 ezers were distributed to 483 members of 480 families in 3 villages of Sarenga, Krishnanagar and Barjora blocks of Bankura and Nadia district during the month of June 2009.

9. SHILPAPITHA AFFAIRS : The work is going on as usual. All the semester examinations have completed.

10.OTHER INFORMATION : Free Coaching Centre :
Under the sponsorship of Ernst & Young Foundation, thirteen Free Coaching Centres have been started in different parts of West Bengal in the last year. These are :

In West Medinipur : Sri Ramakrishna Sarada Pathachakra, Kusumdahari, Ghatal Sarada Sevasangha, Ghatal, Karkai Ramakrishna Vivekananda Seva Pratisthan, Karkai.

In Nadia : Unmesh, Duttapulia, Dakkhin Kalinagar Paribrajak, Nabinganj, Chakdaha Vivekananda Yuva Mahamandal, Lalpur

In South 24 Parganas : Akhil Bharat Vivekananda Yuva Mahamandal, Chotomollakhali, , Dakshin Barasat Sri RamakrishnaVivekananda Pathachakra, Vivekananda Pally

In Bankura : Sarenga Sri Ramakrishna Vivekananda Society, Sarenga, Purbachal Ananda Foundation, Purokonda,

In North 24 parganas : Agarhati Sri Ramakrishna Sarada Sevashrama, Agarhati, Sandelerbill Sri Ramakrishna Sevashrama , Sandelerbill

In Kolkata : Sri Sri Ramakrishna Seva Sangha Prafulla Nagar, Belgharia, Kolkata 700056

One new centre is added this year in Murshidabad : Vivek Mandir , Hukahara, Jalangi.

We have received Rs. 5.0 Lacs from Ernst & Young Foundation to support these coaching centers. Around 1000 poor village students are getting free coaching from these centres and about 60 dedicated young persons are engaged to teach those students with some remuneration.
