Welcome to Ramakrishna Mission Calcutta Students' Home - RKMSTH
More about RKMSTH

This institution, a branch of the Ramakrishna Mission (Head Quarter: Belur Math, P.O. Belur Math, Howrah) was started in Kolkata in 1916 and is located at present in a fairly big campus of 37 acres at Belgharia, Kolkata 700 056. It was the first educational venture of the Ramakrishna Mission in Eastern India.

This Home is a residential institution for imparting value-based education to the youths of our country. It is specially meant for poor but meritorious H.S. and college students studying in different colleges and H.S. Schools in and around Kolkata, with a library, a prayer hall and a small vocational unit to train the inmates. Out of 107 boarders as at present, two-thirds are maintained under free category. They are provided with free board, lodging, conveyance to their respective colleges, medical care, stationery, text books and in some needy cases with bedding, clothing etc. too. Being a residence for college students, it is also licensed by the Calcutta University as a non-collegiate hostel.

"I visited the Ramakrishna Mission Calcutta Students’ Home a few days ago and was exceedingly pleased with what I saw. Hostels of this kind are a crying necessity in a place like Calcutta. This institution deserves well of the Calcutta University and in fact of all who are interested in the welfare of the students. The fact that a serious attempt is made here to impart moral and religious instruction as also to make students live a good and pure life, is a further reason why I am interested in the success of this institution."

Subhas Chandra Bose (1924)

"The Ramakrishna Mission Calcutta Students’ Home is a unique institution where, living among pastoral surroundings our needy meritorious students are taught the principles of self-help. I wish the ‘Home’ every prosperity."

Sri Prafulla Chandra Ray

"The management deserves every praise for the excellent arrangements made, which are in full keeping with the noble traditions of the Mission. I can only hope the students who enter into life’s struggle from Ramakrishna Mission Calcutta Students’ Home will imbibe the true sprit of service and sacrifice and faithfully and courageously work for the uplift their countrymen."

Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookherjee
